HAUGHTON TO COACH AGAIN

Percy Duncan Haughton '99 has made an agreement with the Athletic Association to coach the University football teams during the seasons of 1910, 1911, and 1912. Mr. Haughton will take charge of the squad on Soldiers Field today.

During the past two years Mr. Haughton has given his services without compensation, but he will receive a regular salary for his work during the next three years.

Coach Haughton played on the University football team in 1896, 1897, and 1898. In 1897, he played fullback, but both of the other years his position was at right tackle. The last team on which he played defeated Yale, 17 to 0. He was also very prominent in baseball, playing on the University team from 1896 to 1899, inclusive. He was captain in 1899.

After graduating, Mr. Haughton coached the Cornell football team for two years, turning out a victorious eleven in the second year. He has also held the national racquet championship, and for several years was assistant coach of the University football teams.

In 1908, he was appointed coach of the University team, which position he has held since. F. H. Burr 1L., who was football captain at the time, started the new system of coaching whereby one man as head coach has absolute control of his assistants, instead of there being several men with equal power acting as a board. The graduate committee which was appointed by Burr and approved by the Athletic Association, recommended Mr. Haughton as the head coach. This system worked well and a championship team in 1908 was the result. Last fall, the team was not so fortunate. Early in the season injuries retarded development, and a defeat by Yale followed.

Mr. Haughton has been assistant secretary of the City Trust Company for the past five years, and when this trust company was recently consolidated with the Old Colony Trust Company, he was elected to the same position in the latter. He has lately resigned this office, however, to enter the brokerage house of Mossrs, Hamlin, Nickerson & Co.
