PRIZE PLAY TO BE PRODUCED

"BETWEEN THE LINES" TO OPEN AT CASTLE SQUARE THEATRE ON MONDAY.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Craig Prize Play for 1915, Mrs. Charlotte B. Chorpenning's "Between the Lines," will have its first professional production at the Castle Square Theatre on Monday evening, February 7. Written in Professor Baker's English 47a course at Radcliffe last year, this play was given a trial production in the 47 Workshop in the spring. Subsequent to this successful try-out, some changes were made in fitting the play for professional production, and it was assured a presentation when the judges of the Craig Prize competition, Professor Baker, Mr. John Craig, and Miss Florence Lincoln, awarded it first place among all the plays submitted from the two courses in play-writing at the University and at Radcliffe.

The play is in three acts, a prologue, and an epilogue. The appeal lies in the splendid character drawing which the author has put into her comedy of parents and children. Insight into home conditions and influences takes the place of sensationalism, and deftness of character, portrayal places the piece in the rank of high comedy.

"The Clod" a Success in New York.

Another product of English 47 has reached the New York stage in the one act play, "The Clod," by E. L. Beach '13, which the Washington Square Players are playing at the Bandbox Theatre. The Dramatic Club produced this play in its bill of one-act plays in the spring of 1914, and its success at that time is now being repeated in New York, where the critics have awarded it first place in the current production at the Bandbox.
