CRIMSON CREWS TO RACE OVER COURSE IN BASIN

First 1925 Eights to Compete Against Three University Crews Tomorrow--Fundamentals Have Been Emphasized This Fall Rather Than Speed Rowing

Coach Haines' regular fall crews will meet their first and only test of the season tomorrow afternoon at 4.15 o'clock when the first Freshman eight will compete with all three of the University crews on the mile and seven-eighths course in the Basin from the Cottage Farm bridge down.

All this fall, the coaches have drilled the University crews in the fundamentals of oarsmanship and style and have allowed practically no speed rowing; the race tomorrow will come then as something of an unusual experience to the oarsmen and it is quite possible that under the strain of hard racing the crews will not show up to the best advantage. All this, however, has been considered by those who are directing rowing this year and they will be quite satisfied if the men succeed in keeping good form throughout the race.

Coach Howe, who is directing the work of the 1925 crews, has built up a light but very fast Freshman eight which proved its mettle in the races with the 150-pound class crews about ten days ago.

Before this race, which will be the feature of the Fall Regatta, the second and third yearling eights will row a preliminary race over the mile course in the Basin.

Although it has been customary in past years to stop fall rowing after the Regatta, this year the first University and first Freshman crews will continue rowing provided the weather remains fairly warm.
