BISHOP BRENT TO PREACH AT CHAPEL NEXT SUNDAY

The Right Reverend Charles Henry Brent D.D. Hon. '13, Bishop of Western New York, will preach in the University Chapel next Sunday and take prayers during the following week.

Bishop Brent, who is an Overseer of the University and a member of the Overseers' Committee to Visit the Chapel, has had a notable career in church and national affairs. After being connected with St. Paul's Cathedral in Buffalo, he came to the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Boston in 1880. In 1901 he became Associate Rector of St. Stephen's. Bishop Brent then became Bishop of the Philippine Islands for a number of years. He was twice elected Bishop of Washington and once Bishop of New Jersey, both of which bishoprics he declined to accept. In 1918 he accepted the position of Bishop of Western New York.

Bishop Brent was Chief Commissioner for the United States and President of the International Opium Commission of 1908-09, and in 1911 Chairman of the United States Delegation to the International Opium Conference at The Hague. During the Great War Bishop Brent was head of the Chaplain Service under the United States Government in France. In 1923 the government sent him over as a representative to the Advisory Board of the League of Nations in the matter of Narcotic Drug Control. He was also made President of the World Conference on Faith and Order.
