DRAMATIC CLUB TO GIVE ANNUAL MIRACLE PLAY

ONE OF EARLIEST LITURGIOAL PLAYS IN VERNACULAR

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The annual miracle play of the Harvard Dramatic Club will be presented December 16 and 17 at 8 and 9 o'clock in the evening respectively. The Romanesque Cathedral Portal of the Germanic Museum will again be used as the setting. The play this year is the famous Spanish "Ante de los Reges Magos". It was translated from the Spanish and adapted for the stage by D. F. Robinson '26, and is being directed by C. A. Hicks '26. The arrangement for securing tickets is the same as last year. Persons holding stubs from "The Orange Comedy" may turn these in at the Dramatic Club offices in Ridgel." Annex and receive tickets for the miracle play.

"Ante de los Reges Magos" is the only extant Spanish religious drama of the liturgical type having two early Easter tropes, as they were called. The trope is a series of antiphonal questions and answers interpolated into the high mass at Easter.

Treats Ritualistic Material Freely

The Ante de los Reges Magos" in its original state is but a fragment. It gives the ritualistic material through the meeting of the Wisemen and Herod with free and strikingly intellectual treatment. More than any other prote type it resembles the Orleans Epiphany play, a late ritualistic drama, written, of course, in Latin.
