ACADEMIC BONDS KEEP PURDUE BAND AT HOME

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Ten thousand men of Harvard will be denied the pleasure of seeing the Purdue band in action at the encounter in the Stadium today. One hundred and twenty-five men of Purdue, comprising the membership of the band, were unable to secure the necessary permission of the Board of Trustees to make the trip from Indiana to Cambridge.

At first the large cost of transportation was considered a serious obstacle to the appearance in the Stadium of the famous ten-foot drum and its attendants. A contribution from the H. A. A., and from Purdue Alumni, and a collection taken up in the college was supplemented by an offer from. Roxy, New York theatrical producer, for a one-night engagement at his theatre, insuring the needed funds.

With the financial road made smooth for the eastward anabasis, the Board of Trustees of the college raised a forbidding three fingers. Unwillingness of the authorities to allow the bandsmen to miss four days of classes cancelled the Pullman reservations, and the only music in the Stadium will be partisan to the Crimson.
