FOOTBALL AND TRACK SEASONS OPEN MONDAY

GRIDIRON WORK MAY CONTINUE FOR SIX WEEKS

Two major sports will open their spring sessions when track and football candidates meet at the Soldiers Field Locker Building Monday afternoon.

The University Track men, as shown by their victory in the indoor championships, several weeks ago, have the strength to build up an exceptionally strong team this spring. At the first meeting, to be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon, Coach E. L. Farrell, Captain E. C. Haggerty '27, and Manager S. E. Gleason, Jr., '27, will speak to the candidates. Coach Farrell will have four weeks in which to whip his team into shape before the first meet with M. I. T. on April 23.

Spring football practice will last three weeks, to the beginning of the spring recess, with a possibility that the session will be continued informally after the vacation.

The work this spring will be watched with more interest than usual to observe the development of football under the new rules, especially since the University has secured the services of Frank Shaughnessy, a former Notre Dame player. Shaughnessy was Rugby coach at McGill University and his knowledge of the use of the lateral pass, a commonplace feature in Rugby, is expected to do much to develop this department of play at Harvard. Head Coach Arnold Horween '21, will be in Cambridge only the first few days, leaving the squad in charge of a large staff of assistants. Captain-elect C. A. Pratt '28, will attend only the first few sessions, since his ability in the weight events demands that he devote most of his time to track.
