GRIDIRON SQUAD STAGES FIRST PRACTICE GAME

HORWEEN DEPARTS FROM CRIMSON CUSTOM IN EARLY DRILL

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Candidates for the 1927 Crimson football team were put through a hard hour of scrimmage yesterday afternoon. Head Coach Arnold Horween '21, by sending his charges into actual scrimmage within ten days after the beginning of the spring practice session, has made a departure from the precedent set by Harvard gridiron mentors of previous years.

S. M. Burns '30, a Freshman of last year, who was ineligible last fall, but who has since been reinstated, scored one touchdown when he caught a forward pass across the goal line.

W. T. Wetmore '30, last fall's Freshman quarterback and captain, made the only other score of the game.

Although the workout was held behind the high board fences surrounding the gridiron and little is known about the plays which transpired within the enclosure, it is understood that the newly-developed lateral pass played a large part in the scrimmage.

Substitutions were made frequently during the 60 minutes of play.

The lineup announced by the H. A. A.last night follows:

Team A--ends, Douglas, Burns; tackles, Waterman, Barrett; guards, Ticknor, Stewart; center, Parkinson; quarter back, Crawford; backs, Hitch, Guarnaccia, Holbrook.

Team B--ends, Lewis, Allen; tackles, MacArthur, Williams; guards, Morris, Ingalls; center, Shaw; quarter back, Wetmore; backs, Mills, Moore, Harper.
