COST OF STEEL STANDS ADDS TO H. A. A. SURPLUS

PORTION OF FUND TO BE DEVOTED TO GYMNASIUM

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With the near completion of the steel stands enclosing the Stadium, figures announced yesterday by the Athletic Association show an unexpected saving of $15,000, according to the estimates of W. J. Bingham '16, Director. Originally planned at a cost of $170,000 the steel stands over the running track and enclosing the open end of the Stadium, will now probably come to no more than the total sum of $155,000.

This expense, it was revealed, will come out of running expenses for the current year, rather than from the surplus as was considered last spring. With the propect of several items previously not taken into consideration, accumulating to the credit of the revenue account, it is estimated that the expense of the stands will be almost if not wholly absorbed in the year's budget.

Surplus at New High

The surplus now composes a round total of approximately $600,000 although this figure will be cut somewhat by the expenditure of $166,000 for the steel construction of the second floor of the gymnasium authorized by the Corporation after an eleventh hour decision last spring.

Concerning the remaining fund, which roughly presents $450,000 Mr. Bingham revealed that the Athletic Committee had once more by unanimous vote recommended to the Corporation its use for the completion of the gymnasium.
