UNIVERSITY COURTMEN DEFEAT LOWELL 32 TO 20

CAPTAIN O'CONNELL'S LEG HURT IN FIRST HALF

Playing last night at the Hemenway Gymnasium, the Harvard basketball team outclassed the Lowell Textile Institute quintet by a score of 32 to 20.

After one fruitless dash by the Lowell team early in the first half T. E. Farrell '31 put Harvard in the lead with a short shot, and from that time on the Crimson was never headed. T. G. Upton '31 scored twice in rapid succession, Farrell added another, and J. L. Rex '31 counted from mid-court to give the University team a comfortable margin.

Shortly after this P. N. Jarek made the first Lowell basket, but Captain R. H. O'Connell '29 retaliated with as long shot and another one from a scrimmage under the goal. Rex and R. F. Mahady '29 each counted, while Lowell could make only one basket and several free tries. The half ended with Harvard leading 20 to 10.

After the intermission, Lowell displayed new vigor, and Jarek made a long shot from the center of the court. Several fouls diminished the Crimson lead, but Upton accounted for nine more points. J. H. Ward '30, replacing Captain O'Connell, who had retired with an injured leg at the end of the first half, also scored twice.

Towards the end of the game, a new Harvard team was sent in. After Jarek dribbled the length of the court for a score, the game developed into wild passing and fouls, and no further goals were made.

Jarek played well for Lowell, while Upton's great height was of tremendous aid to the Crimson.
