Last night in the living room of Phillips Brooks House the 30th annual dinner and business meeting of the Association was held, with approximately 100 members present to hear speeches and the reports of various committees. Retiring President C. M. Underhill '30 acted as toastmaster, while Dean Willard Learoyd Sperry of the Theological School was the principal speaker.

Dean Sperry spoke on the gradual changes in the aims of Phillips Brooks House since it was founded in 1900, discussing in a favoring light the change from the narrow and strictly religious interpretation to the modern attitude of practical social service work. In a general manner he approved the stand taken by Phillips Brooks House in remaining an independent organization forwarding the modern practical interpretation of religious work in the University.

Dean Sperry was followed by Thomas Painter, Graduate Secretary of Dwight Hall, the organization at Yale that corresponds to Phillips Brooks House. Painter laid emphasis on the opposite side of the question, forwarding his views favoring a more mystical and evangelical attitude in the conduct of religious work at an institution like Harvard.

Following these speakers the reports of the heads of various committees were read. Work in the Law School as carried on by the Association is of especial significance. Besides the annual reception, attended by about 550 men out of a total incoming class of nearly 770, and the lending library of case books which provided 90 men with adequate law volumes, a series of speakers, leading jurists and lawyers, sponsored by Phillips Brooks House have addressed students from time to time, affording them a great opportunity to hear men who are leaders in law today.
