YALE OFFICIALS SILENT ON CHARITY GAME IDEA

COLLEGE OPINION ENDORSES THE IDEA, STATES NEWS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

New Haven, Conn., October 8--Officials of the Yale Athletic Association and other University authorities remained silent here today regarding the proposal of the Daily News that a special football game be scheduled for the benefit of the unemployed. the ranks of those who have advocated the game was swelled by Doctor Marvin A. Stevens, who vouched for the willingness of the entire squad to aid in relief work. In an editorial this morning the News suggested a contest with Notre Dame on December 5.

Stevens Approves

Coach Stevens, interviewed by a member of the News board, said, "Personally I would be very much in favor of this. You will never have to worry about the football boys; they will come to the front. We would be very glad to cooperate to the fullest extent. I would like to see a certain percentage of the gate receipts, one or two percent, go to scholarships of both universities, because the pressure from within is as great as that from without." Captain A. J. Booth, when shown Steven's statement, said, "I am right with Steve on that."

Stressing the fact that the weight of College opinion is in favor of the charity game idea, the News makes the point that athletic teams at Yale belong to the undergraduates, and that for this reason the owners have the last word when a decision of this kind is hanging fire. Team approval is the only thing now needed to complete the matter, states the News.
