CRIMSON DEFEATS BIG GREEN 78 TO 57 IN DECISIVE MEET

Pole-vaulter Establishes New Record of 13 Feet, 1 3-8 Inches--Dodge Takes Quarter Mile

With Mikkola's athletes responding in surprising fashion to the challenge of much-touted Dartmouth performers in the field events, and the middle distance and distance runners scoring a clean sweep, the Crimson track forces gained a decisive 78 to 57 victory in the Stadium Saturday afternoon over the Big Green in a meet replete with record-breaking performances.

Kuehn, tying for second in the high jump, where Milans of Dartmouth did 6 ft. 4 in., put the 16-pound shot 45 ft. 5 in. on his last chance to give Harvard a surprise first place. Sutermeister, setting a new meet record of 13 ft. 1 3-8 in. in the vault stole second place in the broad jump from W. B. Donner.

Harding hurled the javelin four feet further than Lee of the Green, and Finlayson in the hammer event showed great improvement to place second with a toss just short of 156 ft., as Kidder bettered his previous efforts to place third.

The record jump of 24 ft. 1-4 in. by R. B. Donner in the broad jump was not allowed by Referee Wadsworth in view of the favoring wind, and Harding's 198-foot performance with the spear was like-wise not allowed.

With the exception of second place in the quarter mile, the Crimson swept the field in the middle distance and distance runs. The feature of the afternoon on the cinderpath was Dodge's win in the quarter mile, when he finished a stride ahead of Noyes. Barrie and Foote surprised in the two-mile event, finishing ahead of Fox, with Dartmouth robbed of a possible place when Ferguson lost a shoe. Hallowell's usual powerful sprint on the closing stretch of the half mile gave him a comfortable first ahead of Cobb, with positions reversed in the one-mile event.
