BANCROFT, AMES TO OCCUPY POSTS ON STUDENT COUNCIL

Council Votes For Recommendation To House Masters--Expect Release of Last Year's Report

The Harvard Student Council held its initial meeting of the year last evening from 7.15 until 8 o'clock in the Faculty Room of University Hall, with Robert Saltonstall Jr. '33 in the chair. Saltonstall briefly outlined some of the fundamental points in the Council's constitution, and then went on to the business of the meeting.

Malcolm Bancroft '33, of Cambridge, was elected secretary of the Council, to succeed Peregrine White '33, who tendered a resignation due to lack of time for the position. Richard Glover Ames '34, of Wayland, was appointed by Saltonstall as the member of the Student Council to take charge of Freshman affairs. E.F. Bowditch '35 will assist Ames in this work, which consists chiefly in cooperating with the Union Committee, and in conducting the class elections.

Inter-House Eating Petition

Members of the Council received copies of the Report made to President Lowell by the special committee appointed by him to consider certain questions of undergraduate employment with special reference to students in the Houses. Portions of this report have already been published in an earlier issue of the CRIMSON. It is expected that the report of last year's Student Council will also be released, after the Corporation has had further opportunity to discuss it. The Council voted to draw up a recommendation favoring inter-House eating, and submit this to the House masters.
