Indications that important changes in the educational and administrative machinery of the College may be looked for when President-elect Constant takes office next fall have been gathering strength rapidly during the weeks since Conant's election.

It is believed especially that Harvard's new head will subject the organization of the organization of the University to careful scrutiny, with a view to making changes and consolidations, and that certain fixtures considered to be out of line with the recent trends in the College will be eliminated. One of the Institutions believed by many to be a relic of an obsolete educational system is the degree with honors in General Studies, The of which has been recommended and will in all probability go through in the fall.

A movement is already under foot to change the system of marking so as to do away with the alphabetical "A. B. C. D. E." grading and to put in its place a system under which students would be arrange as "Good," "Satisfactory," and "University" or simply "Pass" and "Not Pass." Such a system, it is felt, would tend to shift the emphasis away from course grades and be more in conformity with the tutorial system.

Languages Changes

Another development rumored to be receiving serious consideration is the abolition or modification of the language requirements. The elementary languages are generally consider to have no place in a college curriculum and a modification of the language requirements. is seen as the way out. Another subject in which the President elect has been interested is the entrance requirements. During the last decade a great deal of experimentation has been carried on in this field at other colleges and it is believed that proposals for alterations in the system of admissions will be carefully considered.

The administrative organization of the University and the various special bureaus and offices which have been created one by one without any pre-existing plan are also believed to be due for a general overhauling.
