STACKPOLE APPOINTED SECRETARY TO CONANT

New Policy Will Add More Prestige to Position--Educational Assistant May Be Ultimate Goal

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Beginning a new policy which may develop into the appointment of an educational vice-president for the University, Stephen H. Stackpole '33 has been appointed secretary to President Conant for one year beginning September 1, 1935. He will succeed Harper Woodward '31, who has resigned to practice law in New York City.

Stackpole was president of the Lampoon, chairman of the Dunster House Committee, and Ivy Orator for his class while he was in College. Since his graduation, he has taught History at Governor Dummer Academy.

According to fairly reliable rumors, it is expected that the post of secretary to the President will be made more important each year and that more duties will be added to it until the incumbent attains a post similar to that of the Secretary to the Corporation and is an active force in the educational administration of the University. At present the secretary to the President acts as the outpost to the public and performs the routine duties which are placed upon the President's shoulders.
