FOUR HISTORICAL OLD AWARDS ARE GIVEN OUT
Scholarships Reach Back to 1643, Date Of Endowment of First Funds for Deserving Scholars
Four historic old scholarships, all of them more than 200 years old, and this year reaching a total of $2,475, were awarded to six upperclassmen, it was announced yesterday. The awards are as follows:
Lady Mowlson scholarship, established in 1643, the oldest in the College, awarded to William C. Knox Jr. '38, Winchester, Tennessee.
Hollis scholarship, established in 1722, "for pious young students designed for the ministry," awarded to Edward C. Dahl '38, of New Haven, Connecticut.
Mary Saltonstall scholarships, established in 1733, for "Juniors and Seniors in Harvard College (always dissenters)," awarded to John Ashmead, Jr. '38, of Windsor, Connecticut; and Clare L. Milton '39 of St Joseph, Michigan.
Saltonstall scholarships, established in 1733, awarded to Leverett S. Tuckerman, Jr., and Boris Yucht.
