TWENTY-SEVEN REPORT FOR BASKETBALL DRILL

Struck and Lowman Absent From First Evening Practice; Two Positions Left Open by Graduation

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Emphatically declaring that "every position is open", Wes Fesler last night opened the 1937-38 basketball practice in the Indoor Athletic Building at 7.30 o'clock for an hour session with 27 attending.

Gridders, Captain Vern Struck and Bob Green were the only veterans who didn't report. Due to a Library job in the evenings Red Lowman was unable to dress but is arranging to attend the remainder of the practices. Ineligibility will prevent Tony McGowan, letterman from participating.

Gray and White Graduate

Although graduation took two of the key members of last year's team, Captain Gray at center and Lev White, forward, returning reserves, Sophomores, and Jayvees are expected to produce a strong team along with the three holdover first stringers, Struck, Lowman, and Lupion.

John Herrick will lead the fight for the vacant center post and Lowman is slated for a starting position at forward. Dick Grondahl, a letterman, and Charlie Lutz, Yardling captain last season are top contenders for a forward berth.

First String Guards Returning

Both of the first string guards are back, Struck and Lupion, with John Dampeer, reserve, leading the other contenders for the back positions.

Until the close of the football season, the evening sessions will continue at the same hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings since Fesler is busy in the afternoons coaching the Varsity ends and kickers.
