Columbia Professor Picked As 1938 Dudleian Lecturer

Herbert W. Schneider to Give Address on "Natural Religion" April 26

With "natural religion" taking its turn this year as subject for the Dudleian Lecture, authorities yesterday announced the name of Herbert W. Schneider, professor of Religion at Columbia, as that of the man who will give the annual address, on April 26.

Oldest lecture foundation at Harvard, the Dudleian was established in 1751 under the bequest of Paul Dudley, 1690, who bequeathed to the College the sum of 133 pounds, six shillings, and eight pence.

According to the terms of the will, the money was to be used for "the crecting, maintaining, supporting, and continuing an Anniversary Sermon or Lecture to be held or preached at the said Colledge once every year successively."

Three subjects are prescribed in rotation. In addition to the one for this year they are "revealed religion," and "the validity of non-episcopal ordination."
