Due to the holiday on Monday, the closing date of the registration for the Lee Wade and Boylston prizes for elocution has been advanced to March 1, according to Frederick C. Packard, Jr. '20, assistant professor of Public Speaking. Normally the closing date is the last Monday in February.
Founded in 1915 by Francis H. Wade, in memory of his son, Lee Wade, 2nd '14, the Lee Wade prize consists of an award of $50. One award of $50 and two of $35 make up the Boylston prizes which Ward N. Boylston founded in honor of his uncle, Nicholas Boylston.
Selections Prose or Poetry
Candidates must choose a piece of literature in either prose or poetry, from English, Latin, or Greek. The selections are to be from five to seven minutes in length and must be submitted to Packard in Holden Chapel for approval. Although the closing date of registration is 5 o'clock on March 1, a candidate may obtain an extension of time for the choice of selections.
Ten men will be chosen from a competition, which will take place about March 15. At that time each competitor will deliver his selection from memory. The final competition is to be held in Paine Hall on the evening of March 31. This event will be open to the public.
