Battlingly gamely to a three set decision in the crucial match, the University tennis team went down to defeat before Princeton Saturday by a one match margin, four to five. After losing the first two singles, the Crimson players pulled up to a four-four tie by winning the number five singles match.
The brilliant playing of Ogilvy finally turned the tide in the last doubles match. Playing steadily, Captain Fuld and Dorson showed good fight in coming back after singles defeats.
The scores were as follows: Winslow (P) defeated Dorson (H) 6-2, 9-1; Oelsmer (P) defeated Lowman (H) 6-2, 6-2; Hauck (H) defeated Okie 6-3, 6-2; Ogilvy (P) defeated Fuld 6-3, 8-6; Sulloway (H) defeated Baker 6-3, 5-7, 6-4; Rawis (P) defeated Hennemen 6-2, 6-3.
Lowman-Hauck (H) defeated Oelsmer-Rawls 8-6, 6-4; Fuld-Dorson defeated Winslow-Okie 8-6, 6-2; Ogilvy-Baker (P) defeated Goodwin-Brown 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Freshmen Lose to Graduates
In spite of sweeping the first three singles matches, the Yardling netmen lost to the University Graduates five to seven. Outstanding among the afternoon's matches was the defeat of Thackera by John G. Palfrey, Jr. '40.
