Yale, which is favored to defend successfully its Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League championship, will open its current campaign against the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia on Saturday. In the other League meeting this week, Dartmouth which scored a stunning 59-16 victory over Pennsylvania last Saturday, will entertain Columbia at Hanover this Saturday.

Harvard, which defeated Columbia 45-30 in its opening meet on Saturday, gains respite during a mid-year examination period. Navy starts its League competition against Pennsylvania on January 25, and Princeton opens its campaign against Navy on February 1.

Big Dartmouth Win

The surprise of the opening League meets last Saturday was the magnitude of Dartmouth's victory over Pennsylvania. Dartmouth showed that it has a well coached, well rounded squad, and it will be in a position to challenge Yale, Princeton, and Harvard in the League race. Harvard showed some strength in defeating Columbia but it does not have the all-round power of a year ago.

Captain Fran Powers of Harvard jumped to an early lead in the individual scoring race by winning both the 220 and 100-yard free style races. These two firsts gave him a total of ten points. Joe McKinley of Columbia, with a first, a third, and a membership on a winning relay team, amassed eight points. Tied with him for second place is Bus Curwen, Harvard Sophomore, who garnered a first and a second.
