Harvard-Yale Crew Races Are Moved to Housatonic River

The oldest intercollegiate athletic event in America, the annual Harvard-Yale crew have been moved from the Thames River at New London to the Housatonic River at Derby, and its date has been tentatively changed to either May 16 or May 23.

Length of the race has been reduced from four to two miles, announced F. Valentine Chappell, honorary chairman of the regatta committee, on Friday. War conditions provoked the change, since New London is the site of a number of vital defense industries, and some factories face on the Thames.

Similar action was taken in 1918, at the time of the last war, and the new locale may possibly be used for the duration of this war. Crimson crews have monopolized recent regattas, having swept the Thames races for three consecutive years.
