Yardling Fencers Defeated By Exeter, 6-3, in Opener

Coach Rene Peroy's Freshmen fencers got off on the wrong foot Saturday afternoon, dropping a 6 to 3 decision to the Exeter foilsmen in their opening meet in the Indoor Athletic Building. For the Exonians, it was the first victory over a Yardling outfit in recent years.

Roland Gaeta accounted for all three points tallied by the '45 squad, and Captain Sheldon and Shellabarger were the Exeter pacemakers. Don Edwards and Art Du Bois, winning all three of their bouts, led the Crimson seconds to a 7 to 2 triumph over the Exeter reserves.

The first team summary:

Nobach (E) defeated D. Van Roosen '45 (H), 5-4. Sheldon (E) defeated D. Thompson '45 (H) 5-3 and Van Roosen 5-2. Shellabarger (E) defeated Thompson 5-2 and Van Roosen 5-3. R. Gaeta '45 (H) defeated Sheldon 5-0, Shallabarger 5-0, and Nobach 5-2. Neptune (E) defeated Thompson 5-4.
