HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
The annual Barrett Wendell and History and Literature prizes for outstanding work in this field, have been awarded to Robert D. Cross '45 and Jerry M. Brown '44, respectively, it was announced by the department last night.
Cross received a ten volume edition of the works of Francis Parkman and Brown was presented with $50 for the purchase of books of his own choice.
The Barrett Wendell prize, in memory of Barrett Wendell '77, former professor in the Department of History and Literature and the first chairman of this committee, is awarded to the member of the sophomore class who has made the most progress in this field. Given by an anonymous donor, the History and Literature prize is received by the field's most promising Junior.
