Cutting down his original 102-man Freshman football squad to 44 Yardlings before yesterday's practice session, Coach Henry Lamar stopped up preparations for his charges' opening contest against Phillips Andover Academy Saturday.
Quarterback Jim Kenary, whose accurate passing has highlighted the afternoon drill periods, and guard Dick Guidera are the only men so far to receive the nod for definite starting berths.
Sharing the honors in receiving Kenary's passes are ends Bill Almy, Armando Mazzone, Bob Forsyth, and Dick Covey. Covey was injured in a scrimmage session last week and will probably see only limited action Saturday.
Frank Lionette, an all-scholastic end from Everett, has been shifted to fullback and is being given stiff competition at that slot by Jim Merkle and Harry Moffie.
