HUPD Chief Says Harvard Yard Encampment is Peaceful, Defends Students’ Right to Protest
Indicative of the increasing concern of Americans over the plight of the homeless Jewish people of Europe is the growth of the Harvard Zionist Group within six months from a handful of students to a well-knit organization of over 200.
Formed with the purpose of making students aware of Zionist problems and ideals, the group is a political rather than a religious organization, and is open to student's of all faiths.
During the past few months, the Harvard Zionist Group has sponsored a series of lectures and discussions, led by authorities on Palestine, which aimed at clarifying the often confused and emotion filled issues. Richard Crossman, Labor Member of Parliament and vigorous opponent of the present British foreign policy, told of the fight for free immigration to the Holy Land within the British Government in a talk jointly sponsored by the group and the Harvard Liberal Union.
Eugene Lipman, educational representative of the Jewish Agency told of successful activities of the Haganah, the underground resistance movement in Palestine, in bringing European refugees to Palestine despite British attempts to thwart them.
