Dan H. Fenn, Jr. '44 of Cambridge, has been appointed an Assistant Dean of the College, the University Corporation announced yesterday. The appointment is effective as of July 1.
Youngest Dean
The newly-appointed dean, who received his A. B. degree magna cum laude at Commencement exercises last month, has been, since the beginning of the present term, in charge of allotting Yard dormitory rooms to Freshmen entering this fall, and is also a Freshman Advisor. It is expected that he will shortly assume the duties of Assistant Dean of Freshmen.
Fenn, 23 years old, is one of the youngest men ever appointed as dean in the recent history of the College. In his undergraduate days, he was president of the CRIMSON, editor of the Service News, a member of the Student Council, treasurer of the Class of 1944, as well as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Served in Italy
After entering College in the fall of 1940, Fenn left for service in the Army in March, 1943. He served as an enlisted man with the 461st Bomb Group in Italy, and later received a direct warrant as WOJG in the Mediterranean Theater. Discharged last summer, he returned to College at the beginning of the 1945 fall term, completing his degree requirements in June.
