Tennis Team Larrups Bowdoin Netmen, 8-1

Coach Bob Ashley's tennis squad opened its summer season Saturday with a blazing 8 to 1 victory over Bowdoin College. The Crimson netmen won all doubles matches and were defeated in only one singles.

Bowdoin's Early chalked up his team's lone victory at the Dillion Field Courts when he defeated Bob Dolloff 6-3, 6-3. Next game on the Crimson agenda will be July 28, with the United Shoe Country Club of Beverly.

Singles--Lane McGovern (H) defeated Orton (B), 6-2, 6-2; Bill Brady (H) defeated Kuh (B), 6-1, 6-1; Edus Warren (H) defeated Archibald (B), 6-0, 6-0; Bill Wightman (H) defeated Ramsey (B), 4-6, 10-8, 6-3; Travis Gresham (H) defeated Haaberstad (B), 6-0, 6-2; Early (B) defeated Bob Doloff (H), 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles--McGovern and Brady (H) defeated Ramsey and Orton (B), 6-2, 6-1; Gresham and Harold Melvin (H) defeated Kuh and Early (B), 6-3, 6-2; Drake and Fred Flickenger (H) defeated Archibald and Haaberstad (B), 6-3, 6-3.

In competition last Wednesday, players from the Graduate Schools won a 7 to 2 victory over the Crimson crew. Ashley, Douropulos, Fox, and Burns from the graduate schools won singles, and all three graduate school doubles teams, Ashley and Fox, Greespan and Martin, and Burton and Sadove, were victorious.
