Schlesinger to Keynote Objectives Of October Campaign Rally Here

Co-sponser Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. '38, will inaugurate the political action drive of the newly formed Massachusetts student Campaign Conference when he delivers the key-note address at the initial rally scheduled for October 12 in Emerson Hall.

Other backers of the group which encompasses Boston University, Emerson, Harvard, Radcliffe, Simmons, and Wellsley, include Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, Raymond Swing, Albert Sprague Coolidge '15, F. O. Matthiessen '27, and John L. Saltonstall, Jr. '38.

Stressing the need for electing progressive candidates in the fall elections, undergraduate leader A. P. Goldenbium '46 envisions a program composed of a balance between education and organization for action.

Students Groups Conbine, Efforts

The local group is functioning under the suspices of the United States Student Assembly and the Boston Metropolitan Council of College. Similar conference are planned for other college centers throughout the country.

Although no definite endorsements have been announced, it is expected that the conference will favor Martha Sharp over Joseph Martin find Oliver S. Allen over Edith Nourse Rogers in congressional contests when delegates convene on September 28 to determine immediate policy.

For the morning session of the October 12 session talks on international, national and local issues confronting voters are projected. The rest of the day will be devoted to planning a program for each congressional district in the state.

Mystery Clouds Luncheon

All as yet unneunced political figure will address the conference at a formal luncheon and proceedings will terminate with an evening dance.

Each conferee will have his task clarified by a working kit to be distributed at the registration; it will include a map of congressional district, a simplified version of the state's election laws, voting records of congressmen, and a description of Boston politics.

Of the sponsoring groups, the United States Student Assembly was organized in 1943 to stimulate undergraduate opinion on current issues and to Transform discussion into action on political lines.
