Jayvees Meet Yardling Nine In First Clash

Hansen, Crosby Are Starting Battery for Freshmen

Yardling baseball fans will get their first chance to see their team in action this afternoon when the '50 nine takes on Lloyd Harper's Jayvees at 3 o'clock on the Freshman diamond at Soldiers Field.

Warren Berg, the Yardling coach, has plenty of material which he terms "pretty experienced for Freshmen." His starting battery will consist of John Hansen, former all-scholastic hurler from Rindge Tech, and Cliff Crosby behind the plate, but Hansen will not go the whole way, as Berg's plans call for replacing him with three other men for two-inning stretches.

As his starting infield Berg has named Johnny Chase for third base, Johnny Goldsmith and Myles Huntington at shortstop and second, and Frank Lionette on first. Frank Glimp, Hal Moffie, and Dick Kobusch will cover the outfield in left, center and right respectively.

Since he has had only two days of practice in which to look over his charges, Jayvee coach Harper was unable yesterday to name a starting lineup. Two men certain to see action, however, are George Strout, the squad's top catcher, and Walt Adler, who will field at short-stop. The pitching will be handled by Barry Turner of the Varsity and by Jayvees Bill Bennett and Sid Greeley.

Freshman starting lineup: Goldsmith, ss; Moffie, cf; Glimp, lf; Kobusch, rf; Lionette, 1b; Huntington, 2b; Chase, 3b; Crosby, c; Hansen, p.
