Provost Buck announced three more faculty promotions yesterday as the annual spring flood of new appointments continued to roll in.
The new posts, which will be effective on July 1, are: John K. Fairbank '29, to be professor of History; and Samuel H. Beer and Charles R. Cherington '35, to be associate professors of Government.
Professor Fairbank, an international authority on China and Chinese problems, is the author of the forthcoming book, "The United States and China." During the war he served on the staffs of OSS and OWI, and in 1945 and 1946 was director of U.S. Information Service in China.
Professor Beer is a former newspaper reporter, Rhodes Scholar, and member of the Democratic National Committee. Professor Cherington has worked for the Bureau of the Budget, the School for Overseas Administration, and has been Secretary of the Graduate School of Public Administration.
