F. Skiddy von Stade, Jr. '38, Director of Scholarships, will be the new Dean of Freshmen, it was learned last night. Von Stade's appointment is the last part of a reorganization of key personnel in University Hall. On July 1, 1952, Delmar Leighton '19, the present Dean of Freshman, will become Dean of Students, while Dean Bender will be Dean of Admissions.
Contacted yesterday, von Stade would neither affirm nor deny the story.
Von Stade, who is also acting Master of Kirkland House, will work under Leighton, probably in the capacity of an assistant dean. Leighton, himself, will have general supervision over all deans and will have three assistant deans. Von Stade will probably be one of them, and the present two assistant deans. William D. weeks '49 and George F. Mayhew '49 will probably continue in their positions.
It could not be learned who von Stade's successor in the Scholarship Office will be. The two immediate successors are von Stade's assistants. David D. Henry and Francis Parkman, Jr. Although both have been in the Scholarship Office only since last spring, they are considered well qualified by University Hall officials to succeed von Stade.
The new job for von Stade is neither a step up nor down. However, University Hall officials say that he will probably have greater responsibilities. They added: "The job requires someone with his experience and his temperament; he is one of the best successors possible for the job."
