Council Blunders in Smoker Voting; Freshmen Compelled to Ballot Twice

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Red-faced Student Council members made freshmen troop to the ballot box twice yesterday in order to elect their eight man Smoker Committee.

The Council blundered at the noon election by leaving Peter S. Hearst name off the ballot. After lunch Hearst was asked how he and his friends felt about the error and said, "We are disappointed that all the work we have put into the Smoker campaign has been in vain, and feel that the only fair way of making up for the mistake would be to hold another election with my name on the ballot."

A few hours later, Cliff Alexander '55, in charge of the Smoker election, admitted that the Council had made a serious error but said that the names of all 24 duly qualified candidates would appear on the ballot when the election was re-run that evening.

Freshman Smoker Committee choices will probably be made known today.
