Varsity, '55 Tens Bow to Big Green

Dartmouth swept a lacrosse doubleheader here Saturday as the varsity won, 9 to 5, and the freshmen romped, 13 to 4. Despite the large deficits, both Crimson teams retained spectator respect.

The Green varsity smashed the Crimson during the first half, leaving at halftime leading, 4 to 1. Superlative performances by goalie Dick Thomas and defenseman Ned Maroni prevented the Indians from sewing up the game immediately. The Crimson attack functioned poorly.

Things changed with the second half, though. Crimson passing and shooting clicked, the defense remained firm. With Ned Yost pasting home three goals, the Crimson ended the third period behind, 6 to 5, after having tied the score earlier at 4 all.

But the strain of using only two midfields finally crushed the varsity's chances, and the Green counted four times to win going away.

In the freshman game, Dartmouth's power was too much for the freshmen, in spite of fine work by Yardling goalie Wong King.
