Cliffe Counted Third in Scholar Poll

Another Radcliffe myth exploded when the current issue of Mademoiselle reported on a survey which ranked the Annex third among the colleges which produce the greatest number of women scholars.

For those who have often thought the Cliffe epitomized women's academic endeavors, the findings of a study financed by the Fund for the Advancement of Education must prove a hard blow. Leading the list was Bryn Mawr with 40.5 graduate students for every thousand graduated. Barnard also beat out the failing Cliffe, which was followed by Vassar and MacMurray College for Women in Illinois.

Famed Wellesley came out 17th in the country, sending 5.8 girls on to greater scholastic endeavors for every thousand graduates.

According to the Survey, "scholars" are those who dedicate themselves to advanced scholarly endeavor." Radcliffe might yet be preserved, for quality was not a consideration.

Women's colleges produce more scholars than co-ed schools, the survey revealed. Co-ed colleges averaged 4.0 and girls' 5.6 per thousand.
