Crimson sailors lost third place to the Coast Guard by one point and could beat only Dartmouth in the 22nd Jack Wood Trophy meet on the Charles over the weekend.
Fred Hoppin and Bill Owens skippered their boat to an A division third place tie with 36 points, while Ash Long-worthy and Carter Brown took a fifth in the B division with 32.
But Tom Townsend and Addison Closson and Phil Tierney and Mike Kenney could only back them up with a ninth and eighth place respectively in each division.
Brown University bunched its sailors at the top of both divisions, piling up 168 points and beating favored M.I.T.'s 139. The Coast Guard followed with 119, the Crimson copped 118, and Dartmouth was fifth and last with 96.
