$400,000 Gift Creates New Economics Chair For Study of Trade

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A new professorship has been set up in the Department of Economics. The chair will be used by a Harvard economist to devote his full time to research and teaching in international trade.

The new post was announced recently to alumni workers for the Program for Harvard College in Philadelphia, New York, Rochester, Detroit and Chicago.

The professorship was set up by a $400,000 contribution to the Program, to honor Galen L. Stone. Stone joined with Charles Hayden in 1892 to form the brokerage house of Hayden, Stone and Company. He served as trustee of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Wellesley College, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

The professorship was given by members of his family.
