Alexander Miller, associate professor of Religion at Stanford University, will deliver the 1957 William Belden Noble Lectures, Dr. George A. Buttrick, Preacher to the University, announced last night.
In the lecture series, which begins Dec. 1, Miller is expected to question the adequacy of modern psychological methods for the exploration of the human "self," and to call for greater use of "the mirrors of history, the Christ, and the contemporary world crisis." Miller will also discuss "the Church's debt to contemporary heretics."
Buttrick said that the Miller lectures "will probably be of more interest to undergraduates than previous Noble series, and have aroused a great deal of interest in the nation's universities and divinity schools."
