ABC Hits Bars In Crackdown On Sales to Minors

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Alcoholic Beverage Control cracked down sharply on local bars and beer halls over the weekend, and returning students generally found that no I.D. meant no service.

Although Cronin's was the only establishment where ABC agents were known to have caught under-age drinkers, it was understood that at least one other bar was in similar trouble.

There was little definite speculation last night as to what the arrests would mean. Conceivably, the offending bars could lose their liquor licenses, or be fined, or both.

The immediate result, however, was a sharp crack-down in the bars themselves. Protests of "but I've been drinking here for two years" were of little consequence as long as the individual could not produce conclusive proof as to his age.

Bartenders in the Square generally agreed that the ABC raids were the most forceful and successful in recent history.
