Long Live The Heir

Americans, it would seem, are depressingly stolid, unemotional people. When a similar event occured recently in Iran, the populace filled the streets of Tehran, singing and shouting; a bank holiday was declared; and the Shah bestowed lavish gifts upon his happy people. Even in England, the event was a cause for some well-mannered public celebration.

Here, however, the blase American consumer takes it all passively. The banks stay open. The streets are filled only with the first Christmas shoppers and children off from school for the Thanksgiving week-end. No shouting, no cheers, not even a national distribution of cigars.

Wake up, America. By a margin of 183,000 votes, you have just been given Jack, Jr., a full-fledged male heir to the throne. The CRIMSON dutifully and respectfully salutes John Fiztgerald Kennedy, Jr., '84, of White House and Boston.
