Social Sciences 8, a new course on the psychological conceptions of man, got off to a tumultous beginning as a policeman turned more than 400 students away from the sectioning meeting in Lowell Lecture Hall. Only the first 125 people in line were admitted to the course.
Because of a misprint advising Radcliffe undergraduates sectioning was to be later in the day, very few girls were among the first 125.
George A. Miller, professor of Psychology and one of the heads of Soc Sci 3, pointed out last night that the limitation on enrollment was at the suggestion of the Committee on General Education and is standard for new courses. Miller said he thought the course would be enlarged next year if it is successful.
The course's 100-member limit was exceeded by 25 to offset any post-sectioning drop-outs.
