Fire Guts Room In Adams House

A fire broke out in Adams A-21 at 10:55 p.m. last night, causing extensive damage before two hook-and-ladders, two pumpers, and a rescue truck finally brought the blaze under control.

The confiagration had spread to two rooms and the hall before a bystander urned in an alarm.

A student living in A entry's fourth floor saw billows of smoke pouring from his room and ran downstairs. "It got hotter and denser all the time," he said. "I swallowed quite a bit of smoke before I got out through a fire door."

A blanket caught in an electric socket started the fire, according to Michael Slote '61, whose entire room was gutted.
