Bowie to Extend Stay With State Department

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Robert R. Bowie, Director of the Center for International Affairs, will not return to Cambridge this fall, but will remain in Washington in a high-level policy post as the State Department's counselor.

President Johnson appointed Bowie to the position -- which carries the rank of Assistant Secretary of State -- last summer. Bowie took a leave of absence from the University last year, and this spring he received approval from Dean Ford to take a second year's leave.

Bowie has played a key role as a government consultant for the past 15 years. He has held several official posts, including Director of Policy Planning at the State Department from 1953 to 1957.
