University Police Nab Two Suspects In River Robbery

By Joel Feldman

The University police Wednesday night apprehended two youths sought in connection with Monday's holdups of a Harvard Business School student and an undergraduate.

George Walsh, Harvard police captain, said that the suspects were arrested on the Boston side of the John Weeks footbridge, the same area where the robberies had taken place.

One of the victims has "positively identified" the youths as his assailants, Walsh said. The accused were arraigned in Brighton District Court yesterday and a hearing has been set for December 6.

Walsh attributed the successful arrests to an all-night stakeout of the area around the bridge.

The police made four arrests in all on Wednesday. Walsh revealed that two men had been arrested in University Hall and charged with attempted larceny.

Walsh said that there has not been a noticeable increase in crime within the University this year. He added, however, that recent crimes have been marked by a rise in violence.

"Crimes appear more vicious this year," Walsh said. "More criminals than ever before seem to be carrying knives and guns."
