OWE Conference To Discuss Ways To Prevent Rape

By Paul S. Turner

The Office of Women's Education (OWE) will sponsor a conference on assaults against women, OWE director Judith B. Walzer said yesterday. The program is scheduled for May 3 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Lowell Junior Common Room.

UHS assistant director Jane H. Leavy '68, one of the conference planners, said yesterday that the purpose of the meeting is to inform members of the Harvard community of the means available for preventing or defending against attack, and to publicize programs designed to help women who have been assaulted or raped.

Consequences

Leavy said that members of the UHS staff, both in psychiatry and medicine, will be at the conference to discuss the physical and emotional consequences of rape.

Another conference planner, Rosanne Kumins, assistant to the director of Harvard's Center for Criminal Justice, said yesterday that other speakers would include representatives of the Office of the General Council to the University, the Harvard Police Department, and the Rape Crisis Center, a community organization offering services to rape victims.
