The United Farm Workers and their supporters at Harvard announced last night they plan to confront Ernest Gallo of the Gallo Wine Co. with petitions condemning his company when he comes to the Business School today to recruit executives.
Gallo was originally expected to come to Cambridge Wednesday, but yesterday evening the Farmworkers learned of his change in plans, Pam Long, a spokesman for the UFW, said last night.
Neither Gallo nor the officials in charge of the Business School recruiting program were available last night to confirm the change in plans or to comment on the proposed demonstration in support of the UFW's nationwide boycott of Gallo products.
The UFW which first organized Gallo workers and represented them until 1973--has claimed the International Brotherhood of Teamsters signed an illegal contract with Gallo.
The Gallo company has denied the UFW's claims.
Richard A. Gonzales '76, a spokesman for the Harvard UFW Support Committee, said last night the committee is trying to spread leaflets announcing a march today at noon from the Yard to the Business School to confront Gallo with petitions the committee has collected from Harvard and Radcliffe students supporting the UFW.
