MBTA Construction In Square Upsets Shuttle Bus Stops

By Jaleh Poorooshasb

Cambridge traffic officials will not allow Harvard shuttle busses to stop anywhere in Harvard Square because of the heavy traffic caused by subway construction, Daniel L. Geiger '80, shuttle bus captain, said yesterday.

"One driver was ticketed last week for allowing a student off in front of the Coop," he added.

Cambridge traffic director Charles Teso was unavailable for comment.

The former Johston Gate and Church Street stops will be replaced by a stop on Mass Ave. behind Lamont Library and one on Boylston Street across the road from Kirkland House. Students may request to disembark on Garden Street near the Cambridge cemetary, Geiger said.

Gregory M. Lewis '79, shuttle bus co-captain, said yesterday increased traffic in Harvard Square may also slow down service this year. "Drivers' tempers are getting short because people keep asking why they can't get off and on in the Square," he added.
