5000 Students to Confront Registration Lines Today

By Burton F. Jablin

Nearly 5000 undergraduates will shuffle through Memorial Hall today amid a barrage of handouts, flyers and pamphlets to register for the 1980-81 fall term.

Margaret E. Law, registrar for the College, said yesterday officials are not sure exactly how many sophomores, juniors and seniors will confront the registration tables, adding that officials prepared about 5000 registration packets.

In addition to the usual forms and information sheets, those packages will contain temporary identification cards, which upperclassmen will trade in later this week for photo I.D.s, Stephen W. Homer, director of student receivables, said yesterday.

Photographers will take I.D. photos Wednesday through Friday, Homer said, adding that students who do not have their photos taken during that three-day period will have to pay a $15 late fee.

Students who lose their I.D.s will have to pay a $25 replacement fee for the first two lost and $50 for the third, Homer said, adding that in past years, few students have lost their I.D.s more than once.

For the first time, photographers taking I.D. photos will also take photos for House directories. Homer said. Each House contributed about $100 to cover costs of film, he added.

Between 700 and 800 upperclassmen who have not paid their term bills will find red dots on their registration envelopes and will have to stop at the Fiscal Services desk in Sanders Theater before they are allowed to register. Homer said.
