'81 Graduate Dies While Hitting Trail In Pacific Park

A memorial Mass will be said October 22 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Clements Church, West Somerville, for Michael F. Cullinane '81, who died in an apparent accident while hiking last month in San Francisco.

Cullinane, age 23, of Somerville, apparently lost his footing September 14 on a cliff-edge path in Golden State National Park and fell to his death into the Pacific Ocean near the Golden Gate Bridge.

He was in California to visit relatives and visit several schools, including the University of California at Berkeley, where he was considering pursuing graduate studies.

This summer he had worked in the computer services department of the Science Center here.

At the College, Cullinane had studied applied mathematics and computer sciences. He had traveled to Berlin in 1978 as a trumpet player in the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra.

He was graduated from Somerville High School on 1977, and was a member of the National Honor Society there.

After graduation from Harvard, Cullinane was employed as a computer specialist with Dale Jorgenson Associates.

He leaves his parents, Francis B. and Barbara A. Cullinane of West Somerville; several aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.
